Further to the Anglia Ruskin University unconditional offer letter in respect of the BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care pathway please find detailed below an explanation of the differentiation between the proposed course of study and the Nursing Degree that you obtained in the Philippines.
The explanation will describe the additional areas of study that will result in the 120 credits that when combined with the 240 credits that your Nursing Degree attracts will result in the 360 credits that the award of the BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care Pathway requires.
The BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care Pathway is intended to qualify candidates for the senior management role in the residential care sector, a role which extends beyond that of nursing and which has worldwide application which is also recognised in the qualification.
Candidates will commence the pathway with a period of induction designed to familiarise them with University processes and help them with study skills. During this time the team will help them with the transition from studying in the Philippines to UK academic requirements.
The first module they will study is “Lifelong Learning”. This module is concerned with updating on issues concerned with their own practice and looking at the theoretical underpinnings. Candidates will also look at the impact of new learning on their practice. Emphasis here will be on helping students to link practice to theoretical concepts to allow for good experiential learning skills to be developed. The pathway will also enable the candidates to look beyond nursing studies to the wider world of Health and Social Care.
Candidates will have a choice of modules between “Law and Ethics” and “Promoting Health”, thus enabling them to build on and expand their knowledge in a specific area of practice. While their transcript from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing shows one module on Health Ethics and one on Strategies for Health Education, there is a need to consolidate and enhance the understanding in these areas when undertaking senior roles. Health Promotion is also heavily emphasized on by the WHO. Both modules give the candidates the opportunity to compare and contrast health related issues in health promotion or law.
During the second stage of the pathway emphasis is placed on preparing the candidates for the dissertation. There is a gap in this area within the transcript provided. Understanding of research and the skills of carrying out research are important part of a health professional’s role. The research module enables candidates to look at a number of different approaches to research methodology, evaluate research reports and develop the skills to prepare them for their own research dissertation. The final dissertation module gives candidates the opportunity to develop a piece of individual research, focusing on an area relevant to their own subject discipline.
